He called the twelve and began to send them out two by two, and gave them authority over the unclean spirits. He ordered them to take nothing for their journey except a staff; no bread, no bag, no money in their belts; but to wear sandals and not to put on two tunics. He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave the place. If any place will not welcome you and they refuse to hear you, as you leave, shake off the dust that is on your feet as a testimony against them.”
So they went out and proclaimed that all should repent. They cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick and cured them.
Imagine being a disciple and hearing Jesus’ call to go out and spread his message in unfamiliar places. The disciples responded to the invitation and readily preach repentance, drive out demons and cure the sick. Can I replicate Jesus’ mission and perform similar acts of service?
Now imagine you are on the other side of this story. Picture the disciples visiting your home today. Do you welcome them and listen to what they have to say? Is your heart open to what comes from Jesus today? What is Jesus asking of you today?
My God, I do not know what must come to me today.
But I am certain that nothing can happen to me
that you have not foreseen, decreed, and ordained from all eternity.
That is sufficient for me.
I adore your impenetrable and eternal designs,
to which I submit with all my heart.
I desire, I accept them all, and I unite my sacrifice
to that of Jesus Christ, my divine Savior.
I ask in his name and through his infinite merits,
patience in my trials, and perfect and entire submission
to all that comes to me by your good pleasure.
